Our European Interdisciplinary Studies programme reflects the complexity of European integration and the wider world, addressing both internal and external EU dimensions, with emphasis on the European security, EU’s neighbourhood and European history and civilisation.
Designed in response to the growing need in Europe for expertise in the multidimensional facets of security, the new European Security and Strategy study track deploys Natolin’s expertise to equip its students with knowledge necessary to address some of the most pressing contemporary global challenges.
The College of Europe in Natolin has three decades of expertise in EU’s external relations with a special focus on the EU’s neighbourhoods and our location at the EU’s external eastern border and in NATO’s North-Eastern flank offers a unique perspective on Central, Eastern and Northern Europe.
Graduates receive an advanced Master of Arts in European Interdisciplinary Studies or an advanced Master of Arts in European Interdisciplinary Studies: European Security and Strategy (as of 2026/2027).

First semester
Students gain advanced knowledge and analytical skills on the foundations of European integration. Compulsory core courses cover EU governance, law, economic integration, external relations, history, and the forces shaping today’s societies. The first semester study trip offers to students a deeper understanding of European identities and a first-hand experience of policies in practice at the EU’s borders.
European Security and Strategy Study Track
In the first semester, students gain foundations in security and strategy with courses on security and military challenges in Europe, geo-economics and geopolitical risk analysis, concepts of strategy or EU Foreign policy-making in times of conflicts.

Second
semester
Our programme is updated annually to align with economic, political, social, and technological developments. Students not enrolled in the "European Security and Strategy Study Track" choose one of 4 thematic majors, tailored to their interests. The semester includes skills workshops, simulations, masterclasses, a second study trip, and a Master’s thesis linked to their coursework.
European Security and Strategy Study Track
The second semester includes courses exploring key dimensions of European and global security: security and conflict management, EU internal security, NATO and European defence policy, defence economics, hybrid warfare, civil protection and crisis management, or geopolitics of disinformation.
At Natolin, students benefit as well from a unique combination of their security studies with the European Regional Studies programme, which ensures proper appreciation of political, economic, social, cultural, and historical dynamics within selected regions, concretely the Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe.

The study trips to countries of the EU or EU’s neighbourhood offer a unique opportunity to acquire, assess, and confront knowledge related to a given geographical area through the prism of the impact that the EU integration process and the EU external relations may have on it. Study trips are tailor-made and vary every year depending on academic priorities and external circumstances. The study trips are an integral part of the study curriculum.

Our two academic chairs—one in European Civilization and the other specialised in the relations with the countries neighbouring the European Union—underpin our academic programme, organize conferences and special events, and conduct research leading to publications in prestigious academic journals.
